This piece, made of plastic bags collected during the coronavirus lockdown in Amman, invites you to go through the pandemic iconography while reflecting on the future short and long-term environmental consequences of our individual behaviours.
In a highly connected and globalized world, the epidemic we are leaving today is disrupting not only economies, health structures and social interactions, our capacity to foresee the environmental burden resulting from an increased consumption of single-use products such as plastic bags and plastic packaging.
While scientists just started measuring the future impact of this crisis on the environment, we must consider new plastic-avoiding habits and alternatives for a greener response to these dark times.

تدعو هذه القطعة، التي صنعت من أكياس بلاستيكيّة جمعت أثناء الحظر الشامل بسبب فيروس كورونا في عمّان، لتصفّح أيقنة الجائحة مع التفكّر في مستقبل عواقب سلوكنا الفردي على البيئة على المدى القصير والطويل.
في عالم معلوم وشديد الترابط، لا تؤدّي الجائحة التي نعيشها اليوم إلى تعطيل الاقتصاديّات والبنى الصحيّة والعلاقات الاجتماعيّة فقط، بل وقدرتنا على تنبّؤ العبء البيئي الناتج عن زيادة استهلاك المنتجات ذات الاستخدام الواحد، كأكياس التعبئة والتغليف البلاستيكيّة.
وبينما بدأ العلماء للتو في قياس التأثير المستقبلي لهذه الجائحة على البيئة، علينا التفكير في عادات وبدائل جديدة لتجنّب استخدام البلاستيك من أجل ردّة فعل أكثر اخضراراً لهذه الأوقات المظلمة.
